Tips for
March and April
What
to do in march!
This is a good month to plant your annuals and to renovate your
lawn. Flowering shrubs and trees, especially those that are somewhat
tender, may be planted now.
Your ixoras, azaleas, camellias, gardenias, hollies, magnolias and
other plants requiring mulch should have the mulch renewed.
Your hungry lawn needs a quality lawn fertilizer now. Rosebushes
should be fed on "peak of bloom" and annuals every two
weeks.Azaleas not previously fed should have their spring feeding.
Your camellias, gardenias, and ixoras should also be fed.
What
to do in April!
Your cold damaged plants may be pruned now. All of your spring flowering
shrubs should be pruned after blooming. March and April are both
good months to renovate old lawns. It is amazing how much vertithinning
and aerifying will improve your lawn. Use a power rake on Bahia
lawns.
If your lawn is infested with nematodes, a nematode treatment should
be part of your renovating program.
Your plants should be mulched. Mulches keep down weeds, conserve
moisture, protect shallow roots from the sun, discourage nematodes,
and make your garden more attractive.
Most palms in Florida need extra manganese. This is especially true
of the Queen Palm. To control frizzle top of palms, manganese should
be applied. Use from one to five pounds of manganese sulphate depending
on tree size.
